The focus for the 15th week (April 10 – April 16) of the 52 Weeks of Gratitude Challenge was:
Things You Like About Spring
There is just one thing that comes to mind when I hear the word Spring. That is, the Annual Spring Festival organized by the European University of Lefke!
The photo below was taken during my 2nd ever Spring Festival at the university, in the year 2007. This year’s spring festival was particularly important for me because I made good sale that year!
In preparation for the festival, I had my mother send me merchandise from Nigeria. I had native attires, dashikis, leather products (wallets and hand bands), jewelry and so on. I do not remember what I sold that day, but Neslihan (on my right in the photo above) and her roommate Fatma, both made sure I sold enough that day. Although it took me a couple of more years to sell off what was left that day, I make the most sales on this night.
The spring festival was an event that I, as much as many other people, looked forward to each year on campus. It was probably the most significant, and biggest event that the school organized each year. So obviously, this was the most favorite thing to me about Spring.
But perhaps the best part about spring, is the break from the cold winter! I took the photo below from my office (the International Office) in 2013, on what seemed to be like the first day of spring. For about the first time since the winter, people were actually sited outside, and I just had to take a photo!
It is just the break period we have between the Winter colds of Cyprus, and the insane Summer heat of Cyprus. It was a time to prepare mentally, for what was to come as from July… the dreaded Cyprus Summer heat!
Since the weather became more friendly, I also enjoyed walks down the seaside, and even strolls with friends. Living a few kilometers from the seaside meant we could always walk down there, sit by the water and enjoy the company of friends with a few drinks, snacks and laughs. Although the seaside is destination to many even during cold winter nights, a visit during Spring was always memorable.
So there you have it… the ideal weather and break from the Winter colds, as well as the annual Spring Festival, are my favorite things in Spring. Being that I only experienced Spring in Cyprus, there is not much else that I enjoyed about Spring before and after Cyprus. Nevertheless, I remain grateful for these things.
Your turn… What do you like the most about Spring?

7 things I was grateful for during the 31st week of this 52 weeks of gratitude challenge:
- Now let us take some time to appreciate God for Nigeria. Things seem bleek, but it could have been worse
- I’m happy that I was able to sleep about 2 hours extra today
- The power bank that I had desired for a while, cost less than I thought. I thank God for that, and that I was able to afford it
- Thankfully, we have started to sell the Indian hair, pair by pair. Now we can recover our money, thank God!
- I’m thankful we were able to find liquid milk for daddy
- Thank God for a good forex rate today, so there was like no loss after all
- I’m grateful for the unexpected token of appreciation from my father
